This course is a 3-part combination of two satellite broadcasts and one webinar. It will focus on the crucial need for strategic planning and approaches to interpreting climate change and other critical resource issues. Register once in DOI Learn in order to attend all three sessions.
February 9, Session 1: A 3-hour (1:00 - 4:00 pm ET) broadcast exploring theory, strategies and best practices for interpreting critical resource issues in general, facilitation skills, and dealing with controversy. February 10, Session 2: A 2-hour (1:00 - 3:00 pm ET) webinar on the foundations of climate change science-- an opportunity for interpreters to build "KR" (knowledge of the resource) for this topic. Webinar access instructions will be given during the first session on Feb. 9. February 11, Session 3: A 3-hour (1:00 - 4:00 pm ET) broadcast focusing on examples of climate change interpretation (programs and media) and specific application of Session 1 theory to the topic of climate change. This session will help interpretive managers, supervisors, and leads take a proactive, integrated approach to visitor experience planning. Participants will be challenged to broaden their understanding of a "visitor" and an "experience." The session will also suggest creative ways to gather knowledge of visitor experience in order to design a "menu" of experience options, all of which ultimately support stewardship and the agency mission.
